Queensberry defeat Matchroom 5-0
Frank Warren’s stable of fighters excelled in the Arabian Peninsula last night, June 1, as all five of his chosen ones triumphed over Matchroom’s.
Featherweight sensation Nick Ball was crowned world champion, Daniel Dubois seized the IBF Interim World heavyweight title, and Zhilei Zhang knocked out the fearsome Deontay Wilder.
Willy Hutchinson vs Craig Richards
On the big card “Queensberry vs. Matchroom 5 vs. 5,” at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Willy Hutchinson (18-1, 13 KOs) scored a unanimous decision victory over the former world title challenger Craig “The Spider” Richards (18-4-1, 11 knockouts).
With this victory Hutchinson won the World Boxing Council’s Silver light heavyweight title, 116-112, 117-111 and 119-109.
Nick Ball vs Raymond Ford
Liverpool’s Nick “Wrecking” Ball defeated American Raymond “Savage” Ford by split decision.
27-year-old Ball pressed the action and outworked Ford during the first half of the fight.
Ford broke Ball’s nose in the seventh round and improved down the stretch, showing his heart of a champion.
The scores were 115-113 Ford, while 115-113 and 115-113 for Ball saw him pick up the WBA World featherweight title.
With this victory, Ball raised his record to 20-0-1, with 11 knockouts, while Ford is now 15-1-1, 8 knockouts.
Hamzah Sheeraz vs Austin Williams
On the big card “Queensberry vs Matchroom 5 vs 5”, at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, World Boxing Council Middleweight Silver champion, Hamzah Sheeraz (20-0, 16 knockouts), notched an 11th-round TKO victory over #5 ranked Austin “Ammo” Williams (16-1, 11 KOs).
Williams rocked Sheeraz in the first round, but Hamzah found the range and dominated Williams, thereafter.
Sheeraz knocked Williams down at the end of the tenth round and earned a Referee stoppage in the eleventh round.
Daniel Dubois vs Filip Hrgovic
British Daniel “Dynamite” Dubois, scored an important victory by wearing down and overwhelming Croatian Filip “Animal” Hrgovic in the eighth round, this Saturday, in the semi-main event of the “Queensberry vs Matchroom 5 vs 5” card, at the Arena Kingdom in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia,
The fight was intense, there was a lot of action. Hrgovic repeatedly connected with his right hand. Hrgovic bled from a cut above his right eye, caused by a blow from Dubois.
The fight was stopped by the Referee at 0:57 of the eighth round.
With this victory, 26-year-old Dubois improves his record to 21-2, 20 knockouts, while Hrgovic fell to 17-1, 14 knockouts.
Zhilei Zhang vs Deontay Wilder
Chinese giant Zhilei “Big Bang” Zhang defeated former world heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, knocking him out in the fifth round.
It topped the bill of the “Queensberry vs Matchroom 5 vs 5” card, at the Arena Kingdom from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The fight started evenly, with both big guys trying to seize the initiative in a highly strategic fight.
In the fifth round, during an exchange of blows, Wilder threw all his power right hands at him, but Zhang saw that in so doing, Wilder lowered his left hand, and with a quick right hand, he made him turn his back and head towards one of the corners.
Zhang chased Wilder to land another big right hook, which sent him to the canvas. Wilder stood up in poor condition, so the Referee decided to stop the fight at 1:51 minutes of the fifth round.
Zhang improves his record to 27-2-1, 22 knockouts, while WIlder is now 43-4-1, with 42 knockouts.
