Ryan Garcia has shared the ring with bothn Gervonta Davis and Devin Haney
Ryan Garcia (25-1, 20 KOs) has given a bold prediction on who would win in a potential matchup between Devin Haney (31-1, 15 KOs) and Gervonta Davis (29-0, 27 KOs).
The 25-year-old comes off a shock victory against Haney, scoring three knockdowns before clinching a majority decision at the Barclays Center, New York, last Saturday.
However, his fight with Davis – which took place in April last year – resulted in a punishing stoppage defeat in round seven, when he was struck by a sickening body shot.
On PBD Podcast, Garcia said: “Haney beats Tank. Yeah, I know, boxing’s a wild sport. [Haney beats him] out of just pure volume; he knows how to use his reach good.
“Tank would try to hurt him, but I don’t think Tank would get to Haney.
“I know, everyone will be like: ‘Ryan’s crazy again.’ Look, if it happens, I have Haney.”
Garcia admits to playing his part during the build-up to his fight with Haney, suggesting that his bizarre posts on social media were all part of the promotion.
Regardless, his convincing performance came after he turned up 3 lbs above the super lightweight limit at Friday’s weigh-in, meaning he was unable to win Haney’s WBC title.
The weight advantage that he possessed made his fight with Haney a stark contrast to his encounter with Davies – a fight where he claimed to be significantly weight-drained.
However, Garcia still backs Haney to defeat Davies, despite the differences in weight and finding himself on the end of juxtaposing results in both contests.
It was officially announced last week that Davies will face fellow undefeated American Frank Martin at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas, on June 15, headlining a pay-per-view card on Amazon Prime.
Martin’s head coach, Derrick James, was in Garcia’s corner the other night too, hoping that his other charge has what it takes to halt the formidable puncher down at lightweight.
