Trabzonspor have issued an official statement denying that they’re attempting to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir.

United secured Bayindir’s services last summer from Fenerbahce for £4.3m.

He put pen to paper on a deal lasting until 2027. United have the option to extend his stay by an additional 12 months.

It has however not been a good time at Old Trafford for Bayindir. The shot-stopper has so far made just one competitive appearance for the club, which came in the fourth round of the FA Cup against Newport County.

He was tasked with playing between the sticks while number one, Andre Onana, was away with Cameroon for the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

It has been suggested that Bayindir is unhappy with his situation at United and could look to leave as soon as this summer. Galatasaray have previously been mentioned as a club interested in having him.

Talk of Bayindir leaving England has also been fuelled by the fact that United have been linked with other goalkeepers such as Christos Mandas, Ivan Provedel and Diant Ramaj.

A few days ago, Turkish publication fotoMac claimed that Bayindir is preparing to go back to the Super Lig, this time in the colours of Trabzonspor.

The report went on to state that Trabzonspor even reached an agreement in principle with United for the transfer of Bayindir and official documents would be signed as soon as the summer transfer window commences.

Confirming that there have been no such negotiations between them and United or even Bayindir’s camp, Trabzonspor issued a statement on X (formerly Twitter).

The statement read, “The news in the national and local press regarding the transfer of professional football player Altay Bayındır to our club does not reflect the truth.”

“Our club does not have any work regarding the player in question.”

“It is announced to the public.”

It remains unclear what Bayindir’s next steps will be. His spot in the Turkey national team ahead of Euro 2024 is certainly in doubt considering the little playing time he’s been afforded at United this term.

His future at Old Trafford is also likely to depend on what happens with Tom Heaton, whose deal expires in June.
