Less than 7 months ago, Fabio Wardley faced Frazer Clarke in a battle of undefeated heavyweights, and that clash of styles produced a very entertaining and competitive encounter. Clarke was the more technically and fundamentally sound boxer, but Wardley’s explosive and unpredictable style largely offset that, and that’s what made this such a damn good fight. After 12 heated rounds of action, the fight was ruled a draw.
This past weekend the two had a rematch where opinions were largely divided. A lot of people believed that Clarke would be able to make better adjustments, being the one with better all around boxing skills and ability.
Others believed that the superior speed and athleticism of Wardley would allow him to better adjust and find ways to deliver his devastating power. Those from the second camp proved to be correct. Wardley put on a damn fine display of power, stopping Clarke in the opening round. It was a frighteningly devastating knockout by Wardley.
Where does Wardley go from here? Right now there are a great abundance of interesting possibilities that might become available from Wardley, ranging from guys inside the top 20, to guys just outside the top 10, or perhaps even some of the contenders that are ranked in the lower half of the top 10. No doubt Wardley will get another big time opportunity to help raise his profile, and perhaps he will get that opportunity sooner than later, after making a huge statement in his rematch with Frazer Clarke.
So what next for Fabio Wardley?
This edition of Rummy’s Corner will attempt to answer that question while providing a quick review of the rivalry between Fabio Wardley and Frazer Clarke, while also discussing possibly future options for Wardley.
