Andre Onana has been named in the latest BBC Team of the Week after his most recent display vs Brentford.

Manchester United were pretty dreadful against Brentford on Saturday night. It was a performance that lacked any sort of quality from Erik ten Hag’s men, who were very fortunate to escape with a point after Mason Mount’s first goal for the club.

The pressure will grow on the gaffer after that outing. There can be no doubt about that. However, one man who can hold his head high is Andre Onana.

Our shot-stopper started life in Manchester somewhat shakily, though after a settling in period, we’re starting to see Onana’s real quality on full display. He was once again the bright spark for United, performing admirably in between the sticks, denying Brentford all three points.

For his display, Onana was the only United star named in the most recent BBC Team of the Week. It was an excellent performance, making some top tier saves to keep his side in the game.

We’re now starting to see Onana’s capabilities. Yes, it did take the ex-Inter Milan shot-stopper some time to get used to his new surroundings, but we’re now starting to see why he was chosen to replace David de Gea.

Leadership, command of penalty area, shot-stopping ability and style of play. Onana is the ideal modern-day goalkeeper, while I still believe he has further room to grow.

I’m just pleased he’s starting to get the recognition he deserves. It’s difficult as a goalkeeper for one of the biggest clubs in the world and the pressure is always on. Onana hasn’t let that pressure become too stifling, instead, rising to the challenge.

Congratulations, Andre!
