Man United could look to make a move to sign Marc Guehi this summer.

Manchester United Football Club are looking to move forward under the part-ownership of INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe. These things take time, though a positive summer would be a good starting point for the fans.

The Old Trafford faithful want something to believe in. Players have to be sold this summer, while hopefully, they’ll be replaced with genuine quality during what is arguably the most important transfer window in well over a decade.

In terms of positions that need work, centre-back immediately springs to mind. Lisandro Martinez is the best defender at the club though he has had injury issues. Raphael Varane is leaving, while the futures of Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans is far from secure.

Jarrad Branthwaite is perhaps the name most-linked with filling that void, however, the Reds need alternative options should the Everton defender be unobtainable. Enter, Marc Guehi.

It’s the Daily Mail with the story. They state that United are now ‘exploring the possibility’ of signing the 23-year-old defender, who currently plies his trade for Crystal Palace.

Guehi is seen as an alternative option to the aforementioned Branthwaite, should the Reds fail to secure the Englishman’s signature in a deal worth around £55m.

The Old Trafford club have been interested in Guehi since last summer, while they continue to monitor his situation at Palace There seems to be a general feeling that he could leave Selhurst Park this coming summer.

What’s interesting is that the Daily Mail believe United will look to try and sign two centre-halves this summer, while only having a budget of around £35m in cash. Obviously, that wouldn’t be enough to bring in Branthwaite, nevermind another centre-half alongside the Englishman.

No doubt United will generate some funds via player sales, though you’d expect that even Guehi would cost more than the initial £35m budget. It could be a testing summer for Ratcliffe and INEOS.
